What is slag?
Slag is a non-metallic industrial solid waste. It is usually a mix of oxides and silicon and is produced during the smelting process of primary metals such as copper, lead, zinc, and nickel. The main constituents of slag are calcium oxide (CaO), silicon dioxide (SiO2), aluminum oxide (Al2O3), and magnesium oxide (MgO).

The slag grinding manufacturing process
The slag grinding process is an important part of the manufacturing process of Portland cement. It consists of two main steps: first, the raw materials are fed into a rotary kiln where they are heated to about 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit; second, the resulting clinker is ground in a ball mill with other ingredients (such as gypsum) to create Portland cement.
The first step in the grinding process is known as pre-crushing. This involves heating the raw material (called feed) in a rotary kiln to temperatures of around 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit. This helps to break down any large clumps that may be present in the feed and makes it easier for the subsequent grinding step to achieve a more consistent product.
Once the feed has been pre-crushed, it is then fed into a ball mill along with other ingredients such as gypsum. The ball mill grinds the material until it reaches a powdery consistency, at which point it is ready to be used as Portland cement.
